Police have shut down a part of Tenth Avenue as they check out a 911 report of a man with a gun hiding in a building on the west side of Manhattan.
An NYPD spokesman says there’s no evidence of a gunman at 550 West 45th St., and the call is believed to be a hoax, but police were continuing to sweep the area until they could clear it.
Tenth Avenue between 45th and 47th streets was closed as police investigated. Neighbors reported heavy police presence — one posted a photo to Twitter showing a police sniper on a roof at 45th Street near 11th Avenue.

Armored trucks and tactical teams from the Emergency Services Unit were also on scene.
Workers in nearby office buildings reported being placed under lockdown as NYPD swarmed the area.
The police spokesman someone called police to report a possible gunman on a roof, and then hung up. When police called him back, they got a fake number.
The 911 call appears to be unfounded but police are continuing to investigate.
